Remove Coffee Stains

Removing coffee stains is not a hard process, though coffee stains once set in can be very hard to remove. The problem most people face is that they do indeed wait to wash the coffee stained item, making the stain even harder to remove. Some people who are used to coffee mishaps may quickly run off and clean the item quickly, or at least get the cleaning process started before the coffee has a chance to dry. Sometimes it is too late for the fabric to be saved, if you wait to long to remove the stains. However, speedy cleaning may keep the fabric looking as good as new.

If you were to ask someone working in the fabric (textile) industry how to remove coffee stains, they would most likely tell you that in order to have any chance of saving the fabric you will want to deal with the stain as soon as it happens. The first step in this process is to place fabric on a blotter with the right side facing down. The blotter can be a clean cloth or a heavy duty paper towel. Then on the wrong side of the stain you will want to lightly sponge out the stain. If you are facing a particularly stubborn stain, you may also want to employ a heavy duty commercial stain removing product. Many times you can find these products in your local hardware store or supermarket. Many of these commercial stain removers will do the trick on the first try, if not follow the directions for repeat applications. When the coffee stain disappears from your clothing, then you will want to rinse the fabric in clear water and then let it dry in the air instead of using your clothes dryer.

One word of caution do not use a hair dryer or machine dryer for your coffee stain removal process because it will cause the stain to set in the fabric. Should the stain still be present, you will not want to put the item in this type of heat, or you will lose the item for ever. Instead you will want to run it through yet another hand washing process and try your coffee stain removal process again. Then set the fabric out to air dry.

If you do find that your item of clothing or cloth furniture has an old stain that you want removed, you may also want to try the vinegar cleaning method in which you use some white vinegar and a quart of cold water to sponge clean the fabric, then air dry the item. Another great process can be using baking soda on the stain while it is still damp from the spill; the baking soda will sometimes suck up the liquid and clear up the stain.
