Discovering and trying all of the different forms of coffee can be a great adventure for any number of people and knowing about them all is only the first step in that journey. The more one knows about all the different forms of coffee that exist in the world, the better that person will be able to make a decision the next time they visit a coffee shop.
Espressos, Cappuccinos, Lattes, and Mochas are four of the most common types of coffee besides the traditional forms. Espressos are the base of most of the alternate forms of coffee, being a shot of rich, full-blooded coffee with a layer of silky crema. The color of the hazelnut crema is an indicator of the quality of the espresso being served. Cappuccinos are standard espressos with silky foamed milk poured into the cup and then topped with a light sprinkling of chocolate powder. A latte is a standard espresso with hot milk which is then topped with a small layer of milk foam. These drinks are traditionally served in a glass. Mochas are the same standard espresso and hot chocolate and hot milk all combined and also generally served in a glass.
All of these forms have many other types branching off from them. Espresso Americanos are standard shots of espresso which are added to a glass of hot water, preserving the layer of crema. Macchiatos are espressos with just a dash of milk added while espresso corettos are standard espressos which have been “corrected” with other liquors or spirits. These are just a small number of the many different forms that coffee takes throughout the world.
